Week 407 of #ThursThreads had many fantastic tales. I’m honored to see all the writers come to tie a tale as we close in on the end of our eighth year. If you’ve been doing it a while, thank you. If you’ve just found us, welcome! May you come back again and write more great flash. Thousand thanks to George Varhalmi for judging this week. Honorable Mentions

Katheryn J. Avila | @katheryn_avila

George says: It causes paralysis, sure don’t fall asleep what else could go wrong. The scene had the right amount of tension to keep it serious while playing up the sarcasm.

Silver James | @SilverJames_

George says: Stab the map and let destiny guide you. I hope it works out for Rudy. A weird call that will lead to trouble and I liked the intrigue that it is setting up for the character. Great story with wonderful emotion.

David A. Ludwig | @DavidALudwig

George says: Shouldn’t have done that. Some days curiosity gets the better of all of us. Sadly, Shyam dug a little to deep. I like the mild interrogation that the scene created and unfortunately for the main character she seems to have willingly walked into a trap. Well written.

Week 407 Winner

Mary Decker | @mishmhem

George says: It’s only 179 days. That was a very fun tale, the humor was excellent for the scene whether you’re in the deep Arctic or deep space. It had a great flow to it.

Before Its Prime

“South-paw, this is Papa Three, do you copy?”

There was a long pause, and I was about to repeat when South-paw answered in his slow drawl.

“Hey Papa Three, how are things?”

Several answers came to mind, ‘Hell in a handbasket’ would have been my first choice if they’d been getting better. As it was, hell was a bit optimistic.

Things are going, South-paw. How’s by you?”

“Well, you know… no use complaining.”

That hadn’t stopped him yet.”South-paw, you hear anything on the op?”

“Just to dig in until daylight.”

I looked at the calendar and sighed. “Tell me you brought the cards,” I answered

“I brought the cards and a six-pack. I’ll be fine.”

I shook my head, it was going to be a very long night, indeed.

“Six pack is not going to cut it,” I warned him

“What, it’s only one night.”

“South-paw, didn’t anybody tell you, daylight will be here in 179 days.”

There was a long silence. “Oh. Better order some more— you got Prime?
