It’s time for Snippet Sunday and the weather outside bloody hot. We’re at 6300 ft of elevation and we should not be a 97 F (36 C). It’s miserable, esp without AC. So we’re hiding. Thank goodness we have a basement. We might be sleeping down there tonight.
I have a new release (well, a new re-release as a stand-alone) and I’m showing it off. It’s a short, it’s a cute PNR mystery and it’s associated with my Callowwood Pack series.
In this snippet, Aaron Wulf, alpha werewolf, is learning his life has gone to the dogs. Well, one dog.
~~~~~~
“What. Is. That?”
Aaron stood at the front door, his arms full of grocery bags, as he stared at the small brown and white intruder.
“This is Sandy.” Tyler grinned at him as he stroked the wiggling Cocker Spaniel beside him.
“What is ‘Sandy’ doing here?” The words came out through clenched teeth.
“We’re dog sitting for my friend, Adele. She’s going to be gone for a few days and needed someone to look out for Sandy.”
Sweet Goddess, no. “No, no, this isn’t gonna work.” Aaron stepped inside, keeping a wary eye on the small dog.
“Why not?” Tyler raised his eyebrows. “Sandy’s sweet and housetrained.”
Yeah, well, I’m not. Aaron swallowed hard. “Look, I’m allergic to dogs.”
“Bullshit. I’ve seen you around a lot of dogs, and you’re fine.” Tyler shook his head as he ruffled Sandy’s fur.
I’m fine, but the dogs freak out. Aaron shook his head. Moon Singers and dogs rarely got along well.
“Couldn’t the dog stay at her house, and you just look in on it from time to time?” Aaron headed for the kitchen. He didn’t want to be anywhere near the wiggling canine.
Tyler rose, his hand tight on Sandy’s leash. “Yeah, well, here’s the real reason we’re dog sitting.” He rubbed the back of his neck with one hand. “Turns out Sandy’s a championship Cocker Spaniel, real name Sands of Time, and she’s worried he’ll be dog-napped.”
Aaron stopped as he shoved the milk into the fridge. “Dog-napped?”
“Yeah, apparently there’s been a slew of dog-nappings, mostly of championship dogs of various breeds. Adele doesn’t want Sandy to be the next one taken.”
What’s a wolf to do? 😉 There are several great authors on the Weekend Writer Warriors list, the Snippet Sunday Facebook group, and the Rainbow Snippets Facebook group. A few of my favorites are, P.T. Wyant, Karen Michelle Nutt, Veronica Scott, Karysa Faire, and Iris Blobel.
Here’s the blurb for THE CALLOWWOOD CANINE CAPER:
Aaron Wulf is a loner, an alpha werewolf. And he’s content with his life until his roommate brings a champion Cocker Spaniel into his home to protect it from dog-napping while its owner is out of town.
Detective Rhiannon Mulvaney has a real dog of a case. Someone’s dog-napping Kennel Club champs, and she’s determined to catch the culprits. But when she meets Aaron, the case gets much more interesting.
Maybe police work isn’t just for the dogs.
Oh my. It doesn’t sound like Sandy will be leaving anytime soon!
Fun snippet, interesting set up for the story! Really enjoyed the excerpt…
Looks like he’ll have to survive the allergies. What will the dog make of him?
Love the set up to the story. I’m curious to know more. Love the book cover, too.
Dogs really do know when werewolves – and humans – are allergic to them.
Oh the effects!
Such a great set up! I’m curious to see how Sandy reacts to him.
