David says: There were some great entries again this week, and I appreciated the number of re-reads it took me to come to a conclusion.

Honorable Mention

David says: This one grabbed me from the mouth-watering opening paragraph and held me all the way through. The segue from describing the breakfast to being asked to investigate the farm flowed excellently.

Week 730 Winner

Eric Martell

David says: I loved the sharpness of the characters and dialogue in this tense, spicy situation. And maybe I’m feeling a little vindictive, because seeing someone get what’s coming to them really made this one for me. “I needed to exert control” was the perfect switch point, where I knew I was not on Tom’s side at all. Good for Marlene.

“So you want to know – really know – why I was with him instead of you?”

Marlene had a hateful look on her face, but I don’t think it was me she hated. Not really.

“Was it, y’know, his…?” I nodded downward.

She threw her head back, laughing. “You would think that, Tom. ‘Oh, Marlene’s with another man. It must be his gigantic horse schlong.’”

“Well?”

“No.” Marlene opened the closet, grabbed her suitcase. “He’s better in bed than you, but not because of that, you insecure twit of a man.”

Now she was pulling things from hangers, tossing them into the red bag. I remembered when we bought the set, before the trip we took to Barcelona. That was two years ago. I’d had a job then. Well, a job that mattered. I made money now, but third shift at the gas station wasn’t what I’d planned on at Northwestern.

This situation was going from bad to worse. I needed to exert control. I grabbed the bag and tried to pull it away from her. The next thing I knew, I was on the ground, cupping my soon-to-be swollen balls.

Marlene stood over me. “You will not touch me. Not now, not ever again.”

“Gah.”

“You started listening to that bullshit and stopped mattering anymore. There wasn’t a fucking you anymore. You became a series of cliches wrapped in an asshole.”

“Buh?”

She picked up the bag, stepping over me.

“Plus, he does this thing… Nah, you don’t wanna know.”
