Welcome back to the home of #ThursThreads for Week 672, end of Year 12! What a fantastic testament to the writing community. Y’all rock!

Today is Thursday and that means it’s time to start flashing on #ThursThreads, the challenge that ties tales together. Want to keep up each week? Check out the #ThursThreads #flashfiction group on Facebook and the Group on MeWe.

Need the rules? Read on.

Here’s how it works:

  • The prompt is a line from the previous week’s winning tale.
  • The prompt can appear ANYWHERE in your story and is included in your word count.
  • The prompt must be used as is. It can be split, but no intervening words can be inserted or tenses changed.

Rules to the Game:

  • This is a Flash Fiction challenge, which means your story must be a minimum of 100 words, maximum of 250.
  • The story must be new writing, not a snippet from something published elsewhere with the prompt added.
  • Incorporate the prompt anywhere into your story (included in your word count).
  • Post your story in the comments section of this post
  • Include your word count in the post (or be excluded from judging)
  • Include your social media handle or email in the post (so we easily notify you)
  • The challenge is open 7 AM to 8 PM Mountain Time US.
  • The winner will be announced on Friday, depending on how early the judge gets up.

How it benefits you:

  • You get a nifty cool badge to display on your blog or site (because we’re all about promotion – you know you are!)
  • You get instant recognition of your writing prowess on this blog!
  • Your writing colleagues shall announce and proclaim your greatness on Facebook, Bluesky, MeWe, and Mastodon, etc.

Our Judge for Week 672:

David A. Ludwig wearing a shirt that reads, "I'm not procrastinating, I'm doing side quests."

  1. The Liquidator

He’d given it a lot of thought.

Frank, his Financial Adviser for twenty-seven years, was, to say the least, skeptical. “You want to liquidate all of your assets, Harold?”

Harold nodded. Then remembered he was on the phone. “Yup. The works. Maybe keep a small percentage for, you know, day to day living.”

“Harold, we should talk about this in person. I’m sensing…”

“Sensing Frank? Dollars and Cents maybe. That the sense I’ve been asking of you, Frank… nothing else.”
He was sorry that he was being brusque with Frank. They’d always had an amiable and professional relationship. Cordial. Now there was a word that had passed into oblivion.

“Of course. You’re the client. I’ll respect your wishes…like I believe I have always done. It’s just, you’re not exactly Bill Gates…or Buffett.”

Frank was surprised that his request was being compared to Bill Gates. “I know I’m not anything like Bill Gates, Frank, but what’s that Margaritaville guy got to do with anything?”

Frank laughed. “Warren, Harold. Not Jimmy.”

“Oh, yeah. Another billionaire. Didn’t know about him.”

“Harold, if I may, I know you’ve suffered quite a loss this year. Forty-five years of marriage and then…”

Harold shook his head, once again forgetting that they were on the phone.

    “I don’t want to talk about that…”

“I know, Harold. Okay. Look. It’s your life. I hope you’re happy with this decision you’ve made.”

Harold doubted he would ever be happy with anything ever again.

    “Thanks, Frank. Gracias.”
