Snippet Sunday – I’d Never Hurt You

It’s time for Snippet Sunday and today I’m showcasing an older book (came out in 2017) as I’m working on the sequel that should be out in June. It’s part of an unusual anthology that I can’t spill on just yet, but my tale will be a sequel to WILDFIRE’S HEART, Book 1 in the Elemental Hearts series. We’re in Raihana’s POV and she’s just learning which kind of djinn he is. ~~~~~~ “That.” She pointed at the fire pit. “How did you do that? Magic?” He shook his head. “No. That was all talent. I’m an Ifrit, a fire elemental. I can ask it to perform as I wish. We are akin, fire and I.” Ifrit. “The fire djinn?” “Yes.” He gazed at her a few moments. “I’m sure your parents mentioned my people.” She nodded slowly. “Yes, they did.” The word echoed through her mind with a sense of unease. Her people had reviled the fire djinn, calling them evil demons sprung from an unholy connection between the Windborn and fire. Her whole village had taught the children to avoid and guard against Ifrits because they would lead the other Windborn to certain death. Her own father had once threatened a cousin who’d befriended an Ifrit on his travels, forbidding him from seeing his friend. “Not complimentary, I suspect?” Saif sat with a self-deprecating smile on his lips. Heat suffused her face. “No.” He nodded. “I figured. Most of the Windborn have labeled us demons because of our connection to fire, but in truth, we’re fire elementals rather than wind elementals. The only difference between your people and mine is the element we manipulate.” Raihana bit her lip, thinking about his words. While her father spent hours railing against her cousin and his association with an Ifrit, he’d never met her cousin’s friend though he’d tried to convince her father to do so. What would village say now that I’m fucking one? Her people would be livid, but Saif had done nothing to harm her. Instead, she felt like she’d come home each time they’d made love. “I’d never hurt you, Raihana.” Saif’s expression had turned serious and he held something hidden in his hands on his lap. “I know that.” ~~~~~~~ Oh my, even among the djinn there are rifts. 😉 There are several great authors on the Weekend Writer Warriors list, the Snippet Sunday Facebook group, and the Rainbow Snippets Facebook group. A few of my favorites are, P.T. Wyant, Karen Michelle Nutt, Veronica Scott, Jessica Subject, Kathy Griffith Karysa Faire, and Iris Blobel. Here’s the blurb for WILDFIRE’S HEART: Available everywhere now! When you wish upon a wildfire… Hot Shot Saif al Nar is a natural when it comes to fighting fires. As an Ifrit—a fire djinn—there’s no one better. But he doesn’t anticipate the local residents being suspicious and afraid of his ethnicity when his crew comes into town from the fire line for some R&R. Add some unexpected backup in the form of a lovely djinn and Saif is ready to set the town on fire. A djinn might get burned… Raihana Nejem retired from being a genie in a lamp centuries ago and now works for the U.S. Forest Service. Fires are devastating her field area, but the sexy firefighter djinn might just be more dangerous. Her people believe Ifrits to be evil demons and Raihana can’t be sure Saif isn’t responsible for the arson fires cropping up in town. Or they could set the night on fire… Is Saif behind the arson or is something darker and more dangerous going on? With hearts and lives on the line, Raihana must decide if she can stand the heat that comes with loving a man like Saif.

Snippet Sunday – I’m a Hose Man

It’s time for Snippet Sunday. February is gone as of tomorrow and that’s kinda quick considering how long 2020 was as a year. I can’t believe it’s already March. I’m showcasing an older book (came out in 2017) as I’m working on the sequel that should be out in June. It’s part of an unusual anthology that I can’t spill on just yet, but my tale will be a sequel to WILDFIRE’S HEART, Book 1 in the Elemental Hearts series. We’re in Raihana’s POV and she’s just finished eating the dinner she promised Saif. He has some innuendos to get her in the mood. ~~~~~~“Oh, there are many different ways.” He pushed his plate aside and grasped her hand, his work-roughened fingers playing over her skin. “Sometimes we run with all our gear on.” He stroked her wrist as he met her gaze, his eyes full of passion. “Sometimes we chop wood. Sometimes we run hoses up the tower.” His smile turned sultry. “I’m a hose man, myself.” Despite his description of typical firefighter training, she didn’t believe he meant the water hoses in this instance. “Are you? Do you have a big one? Or is it more long?” His grin widened. “Are you finished with your meal? I’m happy to show you my hose if you’re interested, but I’d rather not do it before we’ve finished eating. I suspect you’ll need your strength.” “Will I? Why is that?” She met his sultry look with one of her own. “Because if I show you the secrets to my training, you might not be able to walk afterwards.” The eroticism of his words and the images flashing in her mind sent cream straight to her pussy and she squirmed with delicious arousal. “Promise?” His eyes flared with his own arousal and she lost her appetite for food. “Are you sure, Raihana? Because I like to be thorough.” “Oh, glory, yes.” She rose and took both their plates to the kitchen while Saif brought the glasses. But instead of walking around her, he hemmed her in against the sink and kissed the back of her neck after he set the glasses down. Saif slid his hands under her hair and pulled back the collar of her shirt, kissing all the skin he could reach. Raihana closed her eyes and let the delicious pleasure push her troubles away. “Come, show me your bedroom because it’s time to love you.”~~~~~~~ And let the good times roll. 😉 There are several great authors on the Weekend Writer Warriors list, the Snippet Sunday Facebook group, and the Rainbow Snippets Facebook group. Snippet Sunday – More Wishes to Try

It’s time for Snippet Sunday. I can’t believe it’s almost the end of February. And Muirlette #2’s birthday is on Monday. I’m so excited to celebrate with them and enjoy their new, older smiles. But today I’m showcasing an older book (came out in 2017) as I’m working on the sequel that should be out in June. It’s part of an unusual anthology that I can’t spill on just yet, but my tale will be a sequel to WILDFIRE’S HEART, Book 1 in the Elemental Hearts series. We’re in Raihana Nejem’s POV and Saif has arrived for their dinner date. ~~~~~~ “Please come in. The meal is almost done.” He stepped across the threshold and her wards sent a tingle across her skin. That’s odd. It wasn’t a warning so much as a recognition, and she wondered again at his heritage. “I brought bread and some candied fruit chews. Not Turkish Delight, but not bad on short notice.” He held out his gifts and a smile curled her lips. “Thank you. You can leave them on the counter.” She returned to the kitchen to check on the food. “Can I get you something to drink? Water? Beer?” “Water would be great.” He smiled, a slash of white in his dark beard, and she involuntarily shivered. He rested his body against the kitchen counter while she stirred the cream sauce and she forced herself to pay attention to her actions rather than the hot firefighter in her house. You’ve got it bad, Rai. “How long have you been a wildlife biologist?” His question made her turn around. “Oh, only the last ten years or so. It took me a while to decide what I wanted to do and then get the training to do it.” She handed him a glass of water. “To be honest, I think I had more wishes to try than most people who believe in genies.” Saif raised his eyebrows. “Oh? What kinds of wishes did you have?” She shrugged, chagrin making her drop her gaze to the food. “You might find them strange or funny.” “No, no. I’m interested. What did you try?” “I first wanted to be a sculpture artist like those who carved things out of wood or stone. I wanted to create something permanent that I could share with others and enjoy myself for years to come.” ~~~~~~~ Even Genies have wishes. 😉 There are several great authors on the Weekend Writer Warriors list, the Snippet Sunday Facebook group, and the Rainbow Snippets Facebook group. Snippet Sunday – He’s a Djinn

It’s time for Snippet Sunday. And it’s Valentine’s Day. Sending love and blessings to all y’all out there. Celebrate the love you have for friends, family, and lovers. Did you get any cards this year? Today I’m showcasing an older book (came out in 2017) as I’m working on the sequel that should be out in June. It’s part of an unusual anthology that I can’t spill on just yet, but my tale will be a sequel to WILDFIRE’S HEART, Book 1 in the Elemental Hearts series. We’re in Raihana’s POV  and she’s a Djinn, more commonly called genies, as well as a wildlife biologist doing fieldwork in the Colorado Rockies. She met and invited Saif al Nar to dinner that night and she’s nervous. ~~~~~~ Raihana brushed out her hair and braided it as the scallops and crab cooked in the cream sauce. Excitement bubbled just under her skin, but she took deep, regulated breaths and forced her hands to move with steadiness. He’s a djinn, I know it. She’d felt it deep inside the moment they touched hands, and it called to her own djinn hiding beneath her innocuous human exterior. But Saif was different. She didn’t know if it was because she’d been away from her people for millennia or because he was special in some other way. She hoped it wasn’t because he remained shackled to a lantern, under a geas to grant wishes for all eternity, like her own people. He doesn’t wear the arm cuffs. She shot a look out the windows of her cabin toward the road, but no headlights broke the darkness of the summer evening. An hour hadn’t quite passed since he bid her farewell in the grocery store parking lot, but she still worried he wouldn’t come. She couldn’t grant her own wishes as her magic didn’t work that way, but she’d spent many decades yearning for someone to connect with. It had been so long since she met one of her own people, and she’d been restless, never able to find a place where she truly fit in. She’d been looking for someone, a man preferably, who would have her back, and know her for who she truly was. Djinn weren’t common in this part of the world, and freed djinn like her, even less so. But she recognized his energy the moment she touched him, which explained why she got defensive about the way the locals treated him. ~~~~~~~ There’s still magic in the world, and even Ifrit’s can be surprised. 😉 There are several great authors on the Weekend Writer Warriors list, the Snippet Sunday Facebook group, and the Rainbow Snippets Facebook group. Snippet Sunday – Just Doing My Job

It’s time for Snippet Sunday. It’s already February and I can’t believe we’ve survived the first month of 2021. Despite the rough start, it seemed to go a little easier than almost all of 2020. We’re in Saif al Nar’s POV  and he’s an Ifrit, a fire Djinn, as well as a wildland firefighter. He’s just come in from a fire and has already dealt with white racism because of his heritage. He’s continuing his conversation with Raihana from last week. ~~~~~~ She wrinkled her nose and he fought the urge to kiss it. What’s wrong with me? “Ramen is plastic masquerading as food. No one should eat that.” Raihana selected some heavy cream, garlic, carrots, and butter to add to her basket. “Same with taking crap from the local assholes here.” Saif snorted. “You heard that?” “Hard not to. Only a megaphone would’ve made him louder.” She shot him a sympathetic look. “I was ready to kick the shit outta them, but I think you handled it better.” “To be honest I’m too damn tired to take him on today. Maybe once I’ve eaten, showered, and had a long nap.” He yawned wide enough to make his jaw crack. “Sorry.” “That’s all right. How long were you fighting the fire?” He shrugged as he added some frozen chicken thighs and cold cuts to his basket. “This was a short one, only ten days. We managed to catch it early enough, but the weather helped. Without the rains we’d have been at it longer.” “I’m glad you did. As I said, you saved my field area.” “Just doing my job, ma’am.” He winked and she grinned. “How about I treat you to dinner for the effort? It’s the least I can do.” Did the Goddess hear my prayer? He clenched his jaw to keep it from dropping. “That would be very kind. It really is part of my job, but I won’t turn down food for anything.” She laughed. “I hope you like scallops and crab, because that’s what’s on the menu tonight.” “I just happen to find those tasty.” He matched her smile. “And I’m not completely useless. I can help prepare dinner. All firefighters know how to cook. Otherwise, we’d starve.” She gave him a once-over appraisal. “You don’t look remotely starving.” ~~~~~~~ Oh ho, she flirts back. 😉 There are several great authors on the Weekend Writer Warriors list, the Snippet Sunday Facebook group, and the Rainbow Snippets Facebook group. Snippet Sunday – Buy the Steelhead

It’s time for Snippet Sunday. 2020 was an interesting year in terms of my writing. I didn’t write as much as usual and yet I did start/complete quite a few stories. Most of them will be coming out this year, spaced somewhat evenly throughout, though I can’t tell you when the first will be out yet. We’re in Saif al Nar’s POV  and he’s and Ifrit, a fire Djinn, as well as a wildland firefighter. He’s just come in from a fire and has already dealt with white racism because of his heritage. But then he meets someone new. ~~~~~~“Buy the steelhead, it’s better this time around.” A new voice intruded on Saif’s awareness and he focused his attention on the owner. “And thank you so much for saving the town and the forest. I appreciate it.” Fire licked up his arms and legs to pool in the center of his chest around his heart as he took in the glorious vision standing beside him. Rich, dark hair bordering on black flowed down the woman’s back in a thick tail. Emerald green eyes looked out over a hooked nose and elegant lips. She wore a dry-wicking field shirt and olive green cargo pants, but he could see the lush curves and nipped-in waist through them. “You’re welcome. The team is grateful for the support.” Saif smiled at his female companion. “Thank you for the suggestion on the trout. My name’s Saif al Nar.” He held out his hand. “Raihana Nejem. Nice to meet you.” She grasped his hand and the world tilted. Pleasure and excitement built into a crescendo as light and fire exploded inside him. A triumphant roar ricocheted inside his head and he wanted to give into the inferno and dance. Instead he locked his knees and held on, hoping he wouldn’t crush her hand in the meantime. What in the ninth hell is going on? He hadn’t experienced such a surge of internal power since he first reached his Ifrit majority well over a millennium ago. His eyes widened as he took in the essence of the woman he touched. Instead of field clothing, she wore a choli and a pair of gauzy harem pants with slits from ankles to hip. Magnificent waves of her hair flowed and danced in unseen winds, only held back from her face by a jeweled headband holding a large fire opal cabochon.~~~~~~~ There’s still magic in the world, and even Ifrits can be surprised. 😉 There are several great authors on the Weekend Writer Warriors list, the Snippet Sunday Facebook group, and the Rainbow Snippets Facebook group. Snippet Sunday – Let’s Talk About the Fire

It’s time for Snippet Sunday. Last week I had a lot of questions about why Flint doesn’t celebrate Yule and why Rochelle’s place was burned down. Today’s snippet will answer some of the second question. So today I’m showcasing THE CONCRETE ANGEL, a cocky bikers holiday tale. In this snippet, we’re in Flint’s POV (all in first person) and he’s brought Rochelle to his place. She’s the first to speak. ~~~~~~ “Thank you so much for this meal. I wasn’t looking forward to cooking.” She grimaced and shook her head. “Guess I wasn’t going to do that anyway now that my kitchen is a smoking ruin.” I nodded and freed up my hands. “You’re welcome. Let’s talk about the fire. You said it was arson. And you think it was from someone named Creighton.” She wiped her lips with a napkin and nodded. “I won’t know for sure until I check the Cloud, as I said, but I’m pretty sure it was him. As I mentioned, Earl Creighton is a city councilman for Fort Collins, but he has an overwhelming hatred of witches and he’s targeted my family before.” “What?” I blinked. “When? How?” “I told you my mother was murdered a few years ago. It turns out she knew it would happen, and she knew who’d do it.” Rochelle rose and went into the bedroom. I almost got up to follow her, but she came back quickly with something in her hand. “I didn’t find this until yesterday. Well, my best friend Joslyn found it and gave it to me. I just read it today.” She sat down and tapped the edge of the envelope against the table as she considered me. “What?” I tilted my head as her eyes narrowed. “I’m going to tell you something about my family that most people don’t know, and I need you not to freak out.” I raised my eyebrows but nodded. “Okay.” She eyed me for a few more moments before she nodded. “Okay. So my family are witches, real witches with real connection to the elements. My mother’s line was of the earth witches, connected to the stones, the mountains, crystals, farming and gardens. But one of the extra talents my mother passed on was what she called the Goddess Messages.” ~~~~~~~ The first step to a good relationship is faith in one’s partner. 😉 There are several great authors on the Weekend Writer Warriors list, the Snippet Sunday Facebook group, and the Rainbow Snippets Facebook group. A few of my favorites are, P.T. Wyant, Karen Michelle Nutt, Veronica Scott, Jessica Subject, Karysa Faire, and Iris Blobel. Here’s the blurb for THE CONCRETE ANGEL: Available now! The weather outside is frightful, and so are the goons trying to toss me off a snowy cliff… Rochelle Stone, Earth Witch Speaking out against a local bigwig who’s terrified of witches when you actually are a witch attracts trouble. Only the timely intervention of a big, hot biker dude saves me from a modern-day execution. He says he’s security for the Concrete Angels Motorcycle Club, but I know he’s more than that. I’ve always had an affinity for stones, and my affinity for Flint is through the roof. He’s hard as a rock and my hands tingle when I touch him. He doesn’t speak aloud, but his talented hands tell me plenty… Now if I can just get the jackass trying to kill me off my back, it’ll be a golden holiday for sure. Humans. They’re either gloriously happy or dismally miserable. Flint, Concrete Angels’ Security With the holidays just around the corner, I’ve been looking for a quiet place to collect my thoughts. But that’s when Earl Creighton’s goons try to throw a woman off my local cliff. I normally don’t get involved with human troubles, but something about this woman captivates me beyond reason. We share a one-night stand and I know she’s meant to be mine. But Rochelle is no one’s property and she might not sign Loki’s contract. If she refuses, I’ll have to let her go and that will crack the foundation of my soul. No pressure, right? Havoc, hexes, and holidays: It’s the most wonderful time of year…

Snippet Sunday – One of My Many Talents

It’s time for Snippet Sunday and it’s Martin Luther King Jr’s weekend. Given the recent events in the US, it’s a good time to reflect on where we are, where we’ve come from, and what all is ahead of us. Systemic racism didn’t stop with the sixties (though it fell out of sight-out of mind for the white population) and now it’s being exposed again. We have so much work ahead, but it’ll be worth it.Take some time this weekend to reflect and see what small changes you can make in your own corner of the world. But today I’m showcasing THE CONCRETE ANGEL, a cocky bikers holiday tale, and a welcome fantasy and escape from the problems of our own world. In this snippet, we’re in Rochelle’s POV (all in first person) and she’s gotten home in time to see firefighters trying to stop her place from burning to the ground. Flint rides up on his bike and is the first to speak. ~~~~~~ “What the hell happened?” His sign language was short and angry. I grimaced. “Arsonist took out my shop and home because I’m a witch.” “Arsonist.” He repeated the word and his eyes narrowed. “Do you know who?” I shrugged. “Can’t be sure until I check the magical archives saved to the cloud, but I’m pretty sure it was Earl Creighton’s goons.” “Who’s Earl Creighton?” I grimaced. “Local city councilman. The bastards who were trying to throw me off the cliff mentioned him.” He nodded and a small smile quirked the corner of his mouth. “You can save magic to an archival cloud?” I couldn’t help the smirk. “Yup. One of my many talents.” “That’s fuckin’ cool.” Flint turned his head to watch the firefighters battling the blaze consuming my home. “So this Creighton tried to take you out?” I shrugged. “Yup. Twice now.” His expression turned to granite. “Then he’ll pay.” I nodded, but I was too tired to do anything about it that night. “It’s getting close to Yule.” He blinked. “Yule?” He spelled the word out in letters. “Yeah, you know, ‘deck the halls with boughs of holly, fa-la-la-la-la’?” I gave him a sardonic smirk. “Any of that ringin’ a bell?” To my surprise, he shrugged. “You don’t celebrate Yule?” He shrugged again. “Not for a long time.” His response totally derailed my misery and sorrow. “Well, we gotta change that. But first we have to find a place that’s warm, dry, and has good food.” He smiled and nodded to his bike. “I know a place like that.” ~~~~~~~ It’s always good to have backup and a warm place to go. 😉 There are several great authors on the Weekend Writer Warriors list, the Snippet Sunday Facebook group, and the Rainbow Snippets Facebook group. Snippet Sunday – Don’t Be Fooled

It’s time for Snippet Sunday. Happy New Year 2021! We made it to the turning of the calendar and all the possibilities for improvement are ahead of us. That’s something to be thankful for. I’m showcasing THE CONCRETE ANGEL, a cocky bikers holiday tale. And the cover is up at AllAuthor for Cover of the Month. Will you vote for it? In this snippet, we’re in Rochelle’s POV (all in first person) and she’s reading a letter her best friend found in her shop from her mother. ~~~~~~Recently, there’s been an election of the new city council for Fort Collins. Most of the candidates are pretty good people and seem to have good heads on their shoulders. They want to see the city progress toward inclusiveness, understanding, and wellness. But there’s this one guy, Earl Creighton, who has some destructive energy to him. I always feel uneasy when I’m around him and he appears to be rather fanatically fundamentalist in his approach to things. He doesn’t like me or our shop at all. I grimaced as I recalled Joslyn’s remarks about Councilman Creighton’s statements in the meeting. His views apparently hadn’t changed in the last three years. A few weeks ago, I received a Goddess Message. You were out with your friends doing the LGBTQ fundraiser and I’d closed the shop for lunch. The vision showed me I’m going to die, murdered by a goon trying to rob the shop. It’ll be presented as a robbery and the cops will see what they want to see and let it go at that. They won’t find who ordered the hit, but it’s meant to look like an unfortunate result of someone desperate for money. Don’t be fooled, Rochelle. It’s not that. The Goddess told me Earl Creighton is behind it and he will continue to erode all the good the new city council will try to build. He’s poison and decay for something so plain as money and perceived power. You need to be careful of him because he’ll come after you once he’s gotten rid of me. I gasped and covered my mouth with my hand as my tears flowed. Sweet Goddess, Earl Creighton had killed my mother! And she knew it was going to happen. Why, dammit? Why didn’t she do anything to stop it if she knew it would happen beforehand?~~~~~~~ That’s a horrible question and an awful choice. There are several great authors on the Weekend Writer Warriors list, the Snippet Sunday Facebook group, and the Rainbow Snippets Facebook group. A few of my favorites are, P.T. Wyant, Karen Michelle Nutt, Veronica Scott, Jessica Subject, Karysa Faire, and Iris Blobel. And please Vote for the THE CONCRETE ANGEL in the Cover of the Month contest Here’s the blurb for THE CONCRETE ANGEL: Coming Soon!

Snippet Sunday – They Don’t Have a Good Rep

It’s time for Snippet Sunday, the last Sunday of 2020, and boy am I ready. It’s snowy and cold outside, so it’s a good time to snuggle up to a source of heat with a cuppa something good, and read. So today I’m showcasing THE CONCRETE ANGEL, a cocky bikers holiday tale. In this snippet, we’re in Rochelle’s POV (all in first person) and she’s trying to help her friend get a hot date before she lets some info slip. ~~~~~~ “How about you call him while I go pack a bag and I’ll help you lock up on my way out to take the deposit to the bank.” I headed for the stairs. “Whoa, whoa, whoa back there, girl. What do you mean ‘pack a bag’?” Joslyn’s brows knitted. “What kind of plans you got goin’ on tonight?” I shrugged with a smirk. “I can’t tell you that.” “Can’t or won’t? And all this after hounding me to call Andre.” “I actually can’t tell you. Flint invited me out tonight and told me to pack a bag. I guess we’re going somewhere far enough that we’ll stay overnight.” Joslyn lost her smile. “This is the same guy from the Concrete Angels?” She bit her lip. “You be careful with him, okay? They don’t have a good rep.” I dropped my smirk. “I know their rep, but my gut says he’s a good guy.” And not entirely human. “I haven’t gotten any Goddess Messages about him, but I have gotten messages about this place burning down, so packing a bag serves a double purpose.” “Wait, stop. Did you just say this place, our shop, is going to burn down?” Shit. I hadn’t meant to tell her the content of the Goddess Message. “Is that why we packed up so much of your stuff to the storage unit and you’ve been giving me merchandise for friends and family?” She came over to me and grasped my arms. “Sweet glory, Rochelle, is there going to be a fire here?” I sighed and bowed my head a moment to gather my thoughts. “I don’t know when or by whom, but someone is going to burn our shop down before Yule.” “Oh glory, Rochelle.” She gathered me into a hug. ~~~~~~~ At least they’ll both be safe. 😉 There are several great authors on the Weekend Writer Warriors list, the Snippet Sunday Facebook group, and the Rainbow Snippets Facebook group.
