In this snippet, in honor of Mother’s Day, we’re in Sandor’s POV and he’s talking to Bianca about her kids.

“How old is your daughter?” That was a typically innocuous thing to ask, right?
“Twenty-two and already so smart. She’s in school at UC Davis for mechanical engineering and claims she’ll be the one to make solar cells efficient and affordable. I have no doubt she’ll do it.”
Bianca beamed with love and pride in her daughter, and Śandor couldn’t help but be charmed. “Do you have other kids?”
“Yes, Trey. They’re attending Flagstaff Culinary School in Arizona to become a chef. They used to totally destroy my kitchen making these fantastic dessert concoctions without recipes.” She shook her head with a grin. “I made them write some of them down so they could perfect them when they got older.”
“They?” Śandor tilted his head.
“Yeah. Trey is non-binary with a style all their own. They wear long flowy skirts paired with a suit jacket and button-down shirt on dressy days, and jeans with a blouse and vest on causal days.” Bianca snorted. “I don’t know why I’m telling you Trey’s fashion choices. I think they’re original and beautiful.”
“Do you have photos of your kids?”
“Yeah.” She smiled and dug out her phone. “Let me find the good pics.”
While she scrolled, Tatiana came back and took their order—a BLT with avocado for her and a roast beef with Jarlsberg for him.
“Here they are with me for Trey’s twenty-fifth birthday earlier this summer.” She held out the phone and he took it, trying to ignore the zing of her fingers touching his. “They wanted a spa day, so we all got mani-pedis and massages. We all had a wonderful time.”
They all did look happy, showing off their polished and buffed nails with matching smiles.
