Welcome to the monthly round up of all my #ThursThreads tales. It’s finally June, which means school is out and the Muirlettes are thrilled. Me too, frankly. Driving back and forth to school is a PITA, but provided routine. Now we have to find the new schedule while they aren’t going anywhere regularly. It’ll be an adventure.
As usual, most of these bits are of upcoming tales, written to prompts from the #ThursThreads #flashfiction challenge I host each Thursday. We’re starting with Week 511 through Week 514 and I’ve collected them in one place.
May had four Thursdays and no technical difficulties so we have four tales. So, here they are along with their dates and prompts. Happy reading!

Week 511, May 5, 2022
Prompt: “I can’t decide.”
They opened the books and started in on researching how to make an entire race of people forget. Kendra despaired it might be beyond their skills to make the long-lived Fae who remembered everything forever forget about Phinn and his grandfather’s sword.
They talked about which herbs they should use and in what quantities.
“I can’t decide if ginger or thyme would be better here. Both are for protection from evil.”
Colleen frowned as she paused in writing the spell. “I think thyme would be the better choice in that it’s used as protection from evil thoughts and intentions rather than pure evil in itself.”
Kendra nodded. “That makes sense. The Fae aren’t evil so much as narcissistic and bored, and they want what they want. As far as they’re concerned, they’re the heroes of their story.”
Colleen dipped her chin. “Exactly. They see Phinnius and you as evil for keeping the sword away from them.”
Kendra snorted. “Yeah, we just wanted to be left alone.” She opened the next book and flipped through the pages. “What about peppermint and sage? They’re for memory and since we’re futzing with the collective memory of the Fae, should we use both or just one?”
“We’ll have to invert them to allow the spell to either erase or degrade their collective memory. The same with cardamom. Both will need to be inverted to cloud their memories of the sword specifically and Phinnius in general.”

Week 512, May 12, 2022
Prompt: “I did my share.”
“What if we get married?”
I blinked. “What?”
“What if we get married?” Trigger’s grin spread across his face. “Then Laurie can’t come after you.”
I snorted. “Trigger, did you hit your head recently? There ain’t no way Laurie Stratton will not come after me, even if I’m married to someone else. He’s an entitled prick and what’s his is his in his mind. A marriage license ain’t gonna change that.”
I set Harley down in her crib for her nap with a warm smile. It didn’t matter what was going on in the world, she’d always make me smile.
Thank you for that, Lil Bit.
“Get some sleep now, Harley Girl. I love you.” I tucked her in and left the room, closing the door behind me before facing Trigger again. “Marrying you isn’t a solution. At least, not to the Laurie Stratton problem.”
“We could just shoot him,” Trigger remarked drily.
Laughter bubbled up from my chest. “You have no idea how many times I’ve fantasized about that.”
I shook my head. In the past, I did my share of law-breaking, but I drew the line at out-and-out murder. Killing someone in self-defense? Hell yeah, I was game, but not going in with the intention of taking a life. I left that to folks like Loki, Attila, Luke, and even Michael on occasion.
And let’s be honest – that might be the only way to stop Laurie.

Week 513, May 19, 2022
Prompt: “That could be bad.”
“Okay, start at the beginning. Why do I need a new body?”
“You need a new body because it’s the only way you can touch anything in this castle.”
Nichelle nodded. “Uh-huh, and why do I need to touch anything?”
“To fulfill the requirements of the quest.”
“Can’t Marcario fulfill this quest, collecting whatever it is you need?” She gestured at the man beside her.
“He can, but it must be a joint venture. Both of your skillsets will be needed.”
“To complete this quest for you, specifically.”
“That’s correct.” The dragon nodded.
“And what are we supposed find for you that you can’t find for yourself?” She tilted her head. “You look very capable. Why in the world would you need us?”
“I cannot leave my post as a guardian of this hall.” The dragon swept its tail around to encompass the whole space.
Nichelle turned to scan the large room with columns, tattered pennants, crumbling walls and steps, and the old, dusty dragon’s skull. She turned back to the dragon and raised an eyebrow.
“You’re guarding this place? From what? Termites and moths? Or maybe dust bunnies.” She shook her head.
“I’m guarding this place from other creatures that may follow your psychic scent. That could be bad because these beings would destroy your living body while you quest for me.”

Week 514, May 26, 2022
Prompt: “By the end of the week.”
“Trigger, leave a note for Viper, ja? I’ll make sure she gets it.”
Like hell.
If I’d learned anything about Loki over the year I’d been with the club, he did his best to fuck relationships up just to see what would happen. There was no way I’d leave our relationship in his hands. Hopefully I’d be back in Colorado by the end of the week, but in the meantime, I’d tell Aeryn where I was going in person.
But first I had to connect with Attila and make sure he knew he was going with me, like it or not. I remembered how he tried to introduce me to Aeryn at New Year’s and it didn’t go well. I hadn’t spoken to him much since then, and I bet he had a tome’s worth of questions. I gritted my teeth and girded my loins when I found him at the bar.
“Hey, Attila, can I ask you somethin’?”
He tilted his head to look over his shoulder, a smirk curling his lips. “Aye, ye can ask, but I’ll no’ promise to answer.”
I barely refrained from rolling my eyes. “I’m goin’ to Texas to find out how my family is involved with Backlog and the murder of Harley’s biological parents. Loki said to take you with me as a bodyguard. You think you can handle that?”
The big Scot snorted. “It’s no’ that I can’t handle it, laddie. It’s whether ye can handle me bein’ there with yer kin.”
