Black History Month: Black Romance Authors Week 5

Last month, we celebrate Black History Month. March is Women’s History month, and last I checked, Black women write Black romance so I’m going to do one more  list of wonderful Black Romance authors you need to be reading. Here are some Black romance authors who really captured my imagination. I particularly enjoyed the African romance. Happy reading! What I love about my local Walmart is their ability to have a very large and diverse book section. Yeah, it’s mostly white authors, but I’ve found several Black authors such as Talia Hibbert. Ms. Hibbert is a British author and it comes through with her snark and humor. I laughed out loud a some of the antics in the book. It’s the second book in the trilogy and it’s delightful. Grab copies today! I stumbled across books by Farrah Rochon in Target years ago and found her writing to be fun, snarky, sharp, and so satisfying. This is the third book in her series after The Boyfriend Project, and all of them have been so good and fun. Pick her books up today! I used to share a publisher with Empi Baryeh and I was totally intrigued by her books. She wrote African Royal romance and I was completely enthralled. The premise of HIS INHERITED PRINCESS just grabbed my attention and held me untiol the HEA at the very end, I highly recommend her writing. I came across Kiru Taye when I was getting into African romance, and let me tell you, you won’t be disappointed. Her writing is both sensual and intense, bringing all the beauty and excitement of African storytelling with the suspense aspects that keep you engaged and guessing. If you like contemporary romance with a twist, grab Ms. Taye’s work. I’ve been friends with Tina Glasneck for a long time, and she writes some amazing Paranormal romance. If you like vampires, shifters, dragons, and Norse gods, her writing will definitely thrill you. Check her out today! Thanks for checking out the Black Romance Authors I’ve been sharing. You can’t go wrong with diversifying your reading and enjoying some Black joy and love. I hope these few I’ve listed have given you the opportunity to find some great authors to add to your TBR pile. Again, happy reading, Happy Black History Month and Happy Women’s History Month!

Black History Month: Black Romance Authors Week 4

Welcome back to celebrating Black History Month! Contrary to belief, Black History Month didn’t end because goo-gull and Bing stopped sharing it online. I got busy because of Muirlette birthdays, but I’m back again this week with more Black Romance authors you need to be reading. Here are some Black romance authors who are on my TBR pile, and they should be added to yours. Happy reading! Are you a fan of fairytale retellings? Then Layla J. Omorose is your girl. The first book I bought is a Beauty and the Beast retelling, and I picked it up with my limited book funds the moment I met the author. But from her backlist, she’s also a fan of vampire paranormal romance. Grab copies today! Xio Axelrod came across my feed in a whirlwind and brought not only intriguing stories but also fantastically colorful covers. I picked her books up on the covers alone, but the stories sounded so relatable, anyone could step into the shoes of the characters. Pick her books up today! I thought I’d give Rochelle Alers a try when I saw her book in the new release section at the store. I added her to my TBR pile and then went on with things as one does. But this year I was looking through my books and found this title, so I looked her up. Holy moly, the woman has a huge and varied backlist. Whatever your favorite flavor of romance, you have a lot to choose from. Add her to your list and get your reading on. I stumbled across Kathy Douglass when I was snooping the HQN titles at Walmart a few years ago.  hurt people to find love and connection and their well-deserved happily ever after. I love Ms. Simone’s writing and I highly recommend picking up her books. I’ve been friends with Nikki Prince for a long time and not only is she a fantastic author, she’s a great friend (and an amazing woman). We were both published through Evernight Publishing back in the day, but she has some amazing covers and some hot romance. Not just contemporary, but paranormal and inter-racial romance as well. Check her out today! I love sharing my favorite and TBR Black romance authors to all y’all. There are more to come even though Black History Month is almost over. I hope you’ve added to your TBR pile. Again, happy reading!

Black History Month: Black Romance Authors Week 2

Welcome back to celebrating Black History Month! Did you see the Super Bowl Halftime Show? Now there was a celebration of Black History. Didn’t like it? Perhaps a little introspection would do you some good. Why didn’t you like it? Did you understand the messages? Sit with that a bit and see if you have some internalized racism you need to work on. In the meantime, here are some happy things you can celebrate, like Black romance and Black folks living their best lives with these great authors. I’ve enjoyed all these authors and you should definitely check out their stories. So worth your time. Happy reading! LaQuette writes great contemporary romance, and that’s saying something since I don’t usually like contemporary. But her stories are full of real-world drama and mature characters who know how to work through their issues. The author in real life is a fantastic woman working on her PhD in Black Women’s Studies. I LOVED this cover because the woman reminds me of Queen Latifah! When Reese Ryan announced this book coming out, I had to grab a copy. I LOVED the cover and the premise of the NEVER THE RIGHT TIME. How much stress is there on entertainers, especially women, in the music industry? How does each person deal with the constant hype, physical demands, and the anxiety of such a life? Add into that the predators in the industry and you have a pretty potent tale that shows second chances are about listening and learning, and letting go of your fears. Great story. Be sure to grab book 1, SPIN THE BLOCK Beverly Jenkins writes some fantastic historical romance. I stumbled across NIGHT HAWK when someone was asking Ms. Bev about it and I fell in love with the cover. The story is a well-crafted historical romanece where the Night Hawk is a former gunslinger turned Marshal and the woman he falls for is a Native American accused of killing a yt man (who’d been trying SA on her). Great story and a rich HEA too. Naima Simone‘s Rose Bend series is a great small town romance with real-life people. Her tales in the series made me happy – every single one – and brought together some hurt people to find love and connection and their well-deserved happily ever after. I love Ms. Simone’s writing and I highly recommend picking up her books. I first came across Alyssa Cole by reading her Reluctant Royals series. I loved the premise that people really didn’t want to be royalty and they had legitimate reasons why. Her spin-off series of the Runaway Royals is just as entertaining. I also loved her historical romance, especially the Loyal League Series about spies during the Civil War in the U.S. Hard-hitting with truths white folks tend to ignore, and yet, still hold the HEAs we all crave, I highly recommend reading any of Ms. Cole’s books. Oh, I love sharing my favorite Black romance authors to all y’all. There are more to come with great stories to share. I hope you’ve added to your TBR pile. Again, happy reading!

Black History Month: Black Romance Authors Week 1

Woohoo! It’s Black History Month, and yes, I celebrate. Do you know how many things we use day to day that were invented by Black folks? The elevator, the folding chair, and the eggbeater, to name a few. Also, the Romance Writers of America as well. So it’s always good to go back to our roots and keep cheering on the Black romance authors that bring such joy to our lives with their stories and words. Here’s a very short list of some of my favorite Black romance authors and a book I think you’ll love (I did). Happy reading! Have you ever felt that the story of Cinderella seemed a little too damsel and not enough empowering? I felt the same which is why I picked up a copy of this story. Not only is this retelling full of empowerment, it celebrates Sapphic romance and truly understanding oneself. Plus it’s well written and funny AF. I completely recommend Kalynn Bayron, and I’m so looking forward to Snow White’s story, too! Oh glory, do you like hot, sexy fantasy with great humor and plenty of spice? Then Kimberly Lemming’s work is definitely something you want to pick up. This book made me laugh out loud in places, cheer in others, and wish for Black Girl Magic like hers. There are three books in this series starting with Cinnamon’s tale. Then you get her best friend Brie’s story, and finally the story of what happened to Cinnamon’s sister Cherry. Did you know that the first cowboys were actually Black? And even better, there’s a large population of Black cowboys still in California. Rebekah Weatherspoon gives you a lovely introduction to these fellas and their Hollywood grandmother as well as the smart, successful Black women they fall in love with. I loved this series, but this book was my favorite of the three. But don’t forget to pick up IF THE BOOT FITS and A THORN IN THE SADDLE too. There are plenty more Black romance authors to share, but these three are my most recent reads that made me very happy. They have strong voices that are a joy to read, and you’ll be sucked into their tales, I promise. Again, happy reading!
